I made a little banner to help decorate the winery for St.Pat's Day. It isn't very long, so it would be perfect for a mantel, bookcase, or hutch. It was inspired by Lil' Luna's tutorial.
To start, I made my own template:
The template started out as a rectange 3.5 inches wide by 5.25 inches long made from scratch cardstock. I found the middle point along the width (1.75 inches from either edge) and used a t-square ruler to draw a line down the middle. Then I measured up 1.75 inches from the bottom and made a dot on that line I drew. Finally, cut at an angle from the bottom corners up to that dot. Voila! Banner template!
I printed out the vintage maps from Lil' Luna's post onto white cardstock, and traced the template on the back. I also traced the template onto some K&Company patterned paper that my sister gave me a while ago (thanks Tammy!). I cut these all out. In total, I cut out 22 banners.
To decorate, I simply punched out white cardstock in circles (22 total) and slightly larger scallop circles in two different shade of green cardstock (11 of each color). I stamped a shamrock rubber stamp from my stash in two shades of green ink that closely matched the colored cardstock. I sponged ink along the outside edge of all the circles. Then I just glued the stamped circles onto the scalloped circles.
To finish up, I sponged around the outside edge of each banner with a light brown ink. Then I glued the layered circles onto the banners and punched holes in the upper corners of each banner. I used brads to attach the banners together, but you could also weave some ribbon or twine through the holes.
Finally, I found a nice spot over our sofa to hang the banner. I ended up tying bows with some twine at either end of the whole banner, then just used push pins to hang mine.
Let me know if you try this at home, or if you are doing something else to decorate for St. Pat's day!
Happy Trills,
Katie
