Hi all! I hope everyone enjoyed the fouth yesterday! Do you have a party planned in the next few days following the holiday aftermath? I have just the thing for you!
I'll be sharing a few craft tutorials here on TWCQ on Thursdays. I thought I'd call it 'Throw Together Thursday' since I seem to need a cute, alterative name for just about everything. Most of the tutorials will be somehow related to wine, but maybe, just once in a while, a few other subjects will creep in on the tutorial front.
So here is my first ever Throw Together Thursday craft tutorial. I hope you'll enjoy making these really inexpensive and fun wine glass tags for your next party. They are a great way for people to keep track of their wine glass and give your guests a fun little project to work on when they arrive.
And fun little projects make you the hostess with the mostest!
Supplies:
- Paper or cardstock (or use pages out of a magazine...or old books...phone books....Eureka - you could find your guest's phone listing and cut that out! Oh brilliance! Why didn't I think of that when I was making these in the first place???)
- Sissors
- Pen (I used a black fine tip marker for the tutorial)
- Optional - colored pens, pencils, rubber/acrylic stamps & ink, crayons, paint or anything else you'd like to decorate your tags.
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut a strip of cardstock/paper to 1/2 inch by 5 inches.
Step 2: Cut a slit on one side of the cardstock 1/4 inch or so from one end of the strip. I just eyeball this so don't get too worried about exact placement. Refer to the photo above as I drew a black line to show you where to cut. Only cut about half way down the strip. You can just eyeball 1/2 way - it won't hurt if you cut a little further than that. Just don't cut the whole piece off!
Step 3: Cut another slit on the opposite side of the strip, but this time make it about one and 1/4 inches from the same end you measured before. Again, make sure to only cut approximately half way down, and check out the photo above to see where to cut. I'm all about easy, so feel free to eyeball this too...the space between the two cuts needs to be long enough to wrap around the stem of your wine glass plus just a wee bit of wiggle room for your fingers to assemble.
Step 4 (totally optional): I like to dress up the other end of the tag by cutting a 'v' notch in it to make it look like a little banner. You could skip this, or try rounding the corners...or use some cute tiny punch to cut out a shape at that end. The possibilities are endless!
Step 5: Decorate however you desire. Be sure to leave a spot for your guests to write their names. For the tag above, I just made little asterisks all over it with the black pen. In the photo at the beginning of the post, the second tag I decorated with an acrylic stamp and two colors of stamping ink (red and blue to stay in-season!).
Now just wrap the decorated strip around the stem of your glass and slide the two slits together to attach your tag. Viola! Instant wine glass identification!
Oh, and I highly recommend attaching these tags before you fill the glass with wine. Especially if you are as clutzy as I am!
I hope you enjoyed this first tutorial. Let me know what you think and if you have any special requests for future tutorials.
Happy Trills,
Katie
